A few film reviews

Here's some films I've seen in recent memory. 


Parasite. so good, watched it twice, made my coworkers go with me the 2nd time. I liked it more than they did. Highly recommend it to everyone.


Brokeback Mountain. Maybe I'm bad at suspending my disbelief, but they glued sideburns on the actors faces and stuffed their shirts with pillows to make 'em look older. Otherwise pretty good. It was pretty groundbreaking when it came out so I'm grateful for it. Wished it were cuter and less sad. But I liked it.


Gummo. Probably my favorite movie now. 2 teenage boys killing cats and getting milkshakes and then hiring prostitutes. Like, it's very uncomfortable to watch at times, but I think it's so cute. Honestly, it's like really cute.


Promising Young Woman. Oh my gosh this movie is SO GOOD. Changed my life and stressed me out and the 2nd half is just so crazy! It's about a woman getting revenge on all the men who are total creeps at bars and parties. Highly recommend it to everyone. I will watch it with you even. So fun. 


Smiles of a Summer's Night by Ingmar Bergman. Bergman is one of the best directors to ever exist and he mostly does really dark depressing tragedies but this was his one comedy. But it was still pretty depressing. 


Blue is the Warmest Color. I love the main character, she's so cute and carefree and she likes kids and reading. And then she falls in love and it's SO CUTE and MAGICAL. And pretty sexy. Like, the sex scenes were something else. I get that this movie was male gaze to the extreme, but I liked it so much I'm gonna give it a charitable interpretation. Problem: it's 3 hours long. Every scene is very long. But that kinda made it so much more real. I was very engrossed. Recommend it to everyone cool with lesbians.


Call Me By Your Name. Very cute, unnecessarily long, but maybe my patience is just not enough lol. The peach scene was my favorite part. Also maybe it was overhyped for me, it took me a few years to get to it. But I was expecting more drama or excitement or something. Really it was just a cute little love story.

Sheep Slaughter

Today was sheep slaughter day. I was pretty nervous, knowing I was going to watch something die. I got hardly any sleep. When I watched the sheep twitch and yank itself around with blood coming out his neck, I was surprisingly calm and quiet. I expected to be disturbed or disgusted, but I wasn't. I definitely felt some big emotions though, it's hard to pinpoint what they were. Solemn, content, religious, poetic perhaps. Maybe it wasn't even an emotion, but an action in my soul. I surrendered to how unfair life is.  "One must eat the other, who runs free before him. While fantasizing the beauty of each movement. An ode to the gay men of Appalachia

To hike a long hike, you gotta go into town every once in a while to pick up the care package your Mama sent to the post office. Well it's Sunday, and I'm in Front Royal and the post office doesn't open until 8:30 in the morning. Luckily for me, I found a super secret gay man network called Grindr. I can pretty quickly find a place to sleep on Grindr, lots of great men on there, most everyone is happy to help a hiker.  I knew I wouldn't make it to Front Royal in time to pick up my package, so 2 days ago I had to slow down, I got on Grindr back in Luray and a really nice guy came and picked me up. When he texted me he sent pictures of his big house, and said he'd pick me up in a Mercedes-Benz, he talked about his multiple airbnbs and his house-keeper. I mean, I got the impression that he liked showing off his money.  He married a woman, but that ended in divorce because of course it did. And his ex-wife and kids have nothing to do with him.
