People I wanna be

There's this boy I know, he lives in his Suburu and travels around the southwest United States riding a ton of mountain bike trails. I want to be him.


There's this girl I know, who spends so much time on the woods appreciating the beauty of all the plants and animals. She also is really fantastic at ice skating and I want to be her.


There's this boy I know, he rock climbs and does yoga and fights for legislation to protect the environment. I want to be him.


There's this girl I know, who sings and dances and does embroidery and has the best sense of humor. She makes the best food and cakes. I want to be her.


There's this boy I know, who defends immigrants from getting deported, he has a very cynical sense of humor and he's incredibly intelligent. He also like frisbee. I want to be him.


There's this girl I know, she takes care of her baby and writes beautiful articles about the ups and downs of life. She's so loving and welcoming and cares so deeply. I want to be her.


There's this boy I know, who appreciates art and writes complicated and challenging stories, he's also so fun and is always there for me. I want to be him. 


There's this girl I know, who fights fires in the desert all across the west, she lives so free and travels around giving and receiving love to so many people. I want to be her.


There's this person I know, they have the best sense of style and music and they are BRILLIANT at acting. They also aren't afraid of challenge and confrontation, and they have so much optimism and love to give. I want to be them.


There's this boy I know, who knows EVERYONE in Tucson and every day is a party and he's so welcoming and he runs 13 miles every week and speaks Spanish and loves his children. I want to be him.


 There's this girl I know, who takes care of her family with gentle and patient love, she is authentic and changing and she's a violin teacher and I've even got to play violin with her a few times! She's in a symphony and a rock band and that's just SO COOL. I want to be her.


I'm so lucky to have all of these people in my life. I'm just so struck with how many amazing people there are in the world I wish I could be close friends with all of you. And there's so many people I think about all the time and get so happy. I wish I could write appreciation notes to everyone (please don't feel bad if I left you out of this list. I still love you very much I just can't write this post forever lol)


I like being myself a lot though. And the lot of the things I appreciate in other people I see in myself a little. I play violin on a community symphony and I hike a lot and I literally cannot stop smiling. I also like art a lot and I'm optimistic about rock climbing soon. 


Anyway I just got a lot of love today and want to share it. Hugs and kisses to you all!

Sheep Slaughter

Today was sheep slaughter day. I was pretty nervous, knowing I was going to watch something die. I got hardly any sleep. When I watched the sheep twitch and yank itself around with blood coming out his neck, I was surprisingly calm and quiet. I expected to be disturbed or disgusted, but I wasn't. I definitely felt some big emotions though, it's hard to pinpoint what they were. Solemn, content, religious, poetic perhaps. Maybe it wasn't even an emotion, but an action in my soul. An ode to the gay men of Appalachia

To hike a long hike, you gotta go into town every once in a while to pick up the care package your Mama sent to the post office. Well it's Sunday, and I'm in Front Royal and the post office doesn't open until 8:30 in the morning. Luckily for me, I found a super secret gay man network called Grindr. I can pretty quickly find a place to sleep on Grindr, lots of great men on there, most everyone is happy to help a hiker.  I knew I wouldn't make it to Front Royal in time to pick up my package, so 2 days ago I had to slow down, I got on Grindr back in Luray and a really nice guy came and picked me up. When he texted me he sent pictures of his big house, and said he'd pick me up in a Mercedes-Benz, he talked about his multiple airbnbs and his house-keeper. I mean, I got the impression that he liked showing off his money.  He married a woman, but that ended in divorce because of course it did. And his ex-wife and kids have nothing to do with him.
